ChatGPT Dots: Free? Which Plans Get It (2026)

Short answer: no, ChatGPT dots are not part of the free plan. OpenAI's help center says dots are included in Pro and Business Premium, with a beta for Enterprise workspaces where an admin turns it on, and its pricing page lists dots only on the Pro plan card. Free, Go and Plus aren't on that list. I read OpenAI's own pages on October 12, 2026.

Which plans include dots

A dot is OpenAI's always-on agent inside ChatGPT: it keeps working on a goal between conversations, with its own cloud computer and the apps you connect. It runs on GPT-6 Astra, according to OpenAI's help center. Access depends on your plan:

PlanDots?What OpenAI says
FreeNot listedNot named among the plans that include dots.
GoNot listedNot named among the plans that include dots.
PlusNot listedNot named among the plans that include dots. The pricing page's Pro card lists "Dot, your always-on agent"; the Plus card doesn't.
ProYes, outside some regions"Rolling out" to Pro users in markets excluding the European Economic Area, Switzerland and the UK. Your first dot is included at no extra cost.
Business PremiumYesAvailable across all supported ChatGPT regions. First dot included.
Enterprise (including Edu and Healthcare)Beta, off by defaultAvailable when your workspace admin enables it.

Sources: Getting started with your dot (OpenAI Help Center) and ChatGPT pricing, checked October 12, 2026. Plans and rollouts change, so check before you pay for an upgrade.

"Not listed" is deliberate wording. OpenAI's help article names who gets dots; it doesn't publish a sentence saying "Free users can't", so I'm reporting what it says rather than adding a claim of my own.

Where and on what device

  • Regions (Pro): OpenAI's list of exclusions is the EEA, Switzerland and the UK. Rollout is gradual, and it says access "may take several days to reach your account."
  • Regions (Business Premium): all supported ChatGPT regions.
  • Age: the help center's troubleshooting note says Pro dots are for users over 18.
  • Creating a dot: in the ChatGPT desktop app (it is available on Windows too) or ChatGPT on desktop web. You can't create one on mobile, and dots aren't supported on mobile web.
  • Using it on mobile: once created, you can talk to it in the ChatGPT mobile app "when mobile access is available."
  • Texting your dot: a limited beta for Pro users in the US only, not in Business or Enterprise, and not guaranteed for every Pro user.

What it costs and what's limited

OpenAI says the first dot is included in a Pro or Business Premium plan "at no extra cost," and that your plan "includes an allowance for deeper work, with extended limits for the first month after launch." Dots launched at OpenAI's DevDay on September 29, 2026.

QuestionWhat OpenAI says
Is the first dot free with the plan?Yes, included in Pro or Business Premium at no extra cost.
Is there a usage allowance?Yes, an allowance for deeper work, with extended limits for the first month after launch. No number is given.
Can I add more dots?"In the future," per the help center. You'll be able to add dots and scale each one's speed or monthly workload. No price given.
What does Pro cost? The pricing page lists Pro "From ₹10,699 / month" in an India-based view, with "your choice of 3 usage tiers." Prices differ by region.

Some guides quote exact dollar prices for the Pro tiers. I couldn't confirm those on OpenAI's pages in a US view, so I'm not repeating them. Check the pricing page for your region.

How to check if you have it

  1. Make sure you're signed in to the account and workspace you mean to use. OpenAI says to check this first.
  2. Go to chatgpt.com/dots on desktop. This is the page OpenAI's troubleshooting note points to when you can't find dots.
  3. If you're on Pro or Business Premium and don't see it, rollout may not have reached your account yet. OpenAI says it can take several days.
  4. On Enterprise, Edu or Healthcare, ask your workspace admin whether the beta has been enabled. It's off by default.
  5. If you use the desktop app, make sure you're creating the dot there or on desktop web, not on a phone.

What this means for your plan

This table is my read of OpenAI's wording, not OpenAI's advice.

You're on...What the pages sayMy read
FreeNot listed for dotsDon't expect a dot. The free plan's limits are covered in ChatGPT Free Plan Limits.
Go or PlusNot listed for dotsUpgrading to Plus alone isn't what the pages describe; dots sit on Pro.
Pro, outside the EEA, Switzerland and the UKIncluded, rolling outCheck chatgpt.com/dots on desktop; it may take a few days.
Pro in the EEA, Switzerland or the UKExcluded for nowNot available yet according to the help center. OpenAI gives no date.
Business Premium or EnterpriseIncluded / admin-enabled betaAsk your admin.

If you're deciding whether any paid plan is worth it for this alone, note that OpenAI hasn't published how much work a dot can do on its allowance. How other assistants' plans compare on limits is in Claude Free vs Pro and Gemini Free vs Pro.

What OpenAI doesn't publish

Things I looked for on the official pages and couldn't find:

  • How much work a dot can do on its allowance, as a number, either during the extended first month or after it.
  • What happens to the allowance once the first month after launch ends.
  • The price of extra dots.
  • Any plan for Free, Go or Plus to get dots, or a date for the EEA, Switzerland or the UK.
  • How "several days" of gradual rollout is scheduled.

Treat any firm answer to these as a guess unless it links to OpenAI.

Questions people ask

Are ChatGPT dots free?

Not on the free plan. OpenAI includes your first dot at no extra cost with Pro or Business Premium. Free, Go and Plus aren't named among the plans that include dots.

Do ChatGPT Plus users get dots?

OpenAI's help center doesn't list Plus among the plans that include dots, and its pricing page shows dots on the Pro card only.

Are dots available in India?

OpenAI's rollout for Pro excludes the European Economic Area, Switzerland and the UK, and India is not on that list. Rollout is gradual and can take several days to reach an account, so check chatgpt.com/dots on desktop.

Can I create a dot on my phone?

No. OpenAI says you can't create a dot on mobile, and dots aren't supported on mobile web. Create it in the desktop app or on desktop web, then talk to it in the mobile app when mobile access is available.

How much usage does a dot get?

OpenAI says your plan includes an allowance for deeper work, with extended limits for the first month after launch, but it doesn't publish the numbers.
